GMR School of Aviation commences Integrated Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Courses
The GMR School of Aviation recently commenced two 4-year integrated courses in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME), offered in technical collaboration with Airbus. The domestic and international licensed AME courses have been certified by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), respectively.
On July 18, 2024, the first batch of students and their parents were given a warm and cordial orientation and welcome as part of the opening ceremony at the GMR School of Aviation campus, situated within the GMR Aerospace and Industrial Park at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad, marking a significant milestone in GMR Group's commitment to fostering excellence in aviation education and training. This marked the first of three staggered welcoming sessions, where students and parents had the chance to interact with the top leadership of GMR Group, the institute's instructors, and tour the campus.
Mr. Pradeep Panicker, CEO of GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited, Mr. PS Nair, Chief Executive Director at GMR Airports Limited, Mr. DB Murali, Vice President of the GMR School of Aviation and Mr. Dinesh Bohra, CEO, GMR Aero Technic, the senior management of GMR, and staff were present at the event and addressed the students and their parents with their words of encouragement and wisdom.
The school will offer a fully integrated 4-year AME program (with 2 year academic training and 2 year on-the-job training) along with type training, and is the first of its kind institution in India to offer a combined B1.1 and B2 AME licensing program, Aircraft Specific Type Training Courses, and Ancillary Courses like Aircraft Structures and Aircraft Composite Courses.
Airbus will provide the necessary courseware, including technical handbooks, examination databases, and access to the Airbus Competence Training (ACT) for Academy media package. Airbus will also qualify GMR instructors and assess the training center, ensuring the highest standards of aviation education.
The school was digitally launched in 2024 at the Wings India aviation summit and the foundation stone was laid in 2021 by the then Hon’ble Minister for Civil Aviation & Steel, Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia. COVID-19 pandemic had led to a shift in the date of commencement of the course.
The GMR School of Aviation is poised to become a global benchmark and center of excellence in the field of Aviation Education, setting new standards and raising the bar of aviation education worldwide. As the MRO industry is expected to grow to over US$ 2.4 billion by 2028, this school will be a game-changer, equipping students with the expertise to succeed in the burgeoning aviation industry globally.
